Give Glory to God as the Creator of the World

Adoration 1.10 | KJV

I must give glory to him as the Creator of the world and the great Protector, Benefactor, and Ruler of the whole creation.

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive blessing and honour and glory and power; for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure and for thy praise they are and were created. Revelation 4:11(KJV)

I worship him that made the heaven and the earth, the sea and the fountains of waters; Revelation 14:7(KJV) who spake, and it was done; who commanded, and it stood fast; Psalm 33:9(KJV) who said, Let there be light, and there was light; Genesis 1:3(KJV) Let there be a firmament, and he made the firmament; Genesis 1:6-7(KJV) and he made all very good; Genesis 1:31(KJV) and they continue this day according to his ordinance, for all are his servants. Psalm 119:91(KJV)

The day is thine, the night also is thine; thou hast prepared the light and the sun. Thou hast set all the borders of the earth, thou hast made the summer and winter. Psalm 74:16-17(KJV)

Thou upholdest all things by the word of thy power, Hebrews 1:3(KJV) and by thee all things consist. Colossians 1:17(KJV)

The earth is full of thy riches, so is the great and wide sea also. Psalm 104:24-25(KJV) The eyes of all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their meat in due season: Thou openest thy hand and satisfiest the desires of every living thing. Psalm 145:15-16(KJV) Thou preservest man and beast, Psalm 36:6(KJV) and givest food to all flesh. Psalm 135:25(KJV)

Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host; the earth and all things that are therein; the seas and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee, Nehemiah 9:6(KJV) whose kingdom ruleth over all. Psalm 103:19(KJV)

A sparrow falls not to the ground without thee. Matthew 10:29(KJV)

Thou madest man at first of the dust of the ground and breathest into him the breath of life, and so he became a living soul. Genesis 2:7(KJV)

And thou hast made of that one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hast determined the times before appointed and the bounds of their habitation. Acts 17:26(KJV)

Thou art the Most High, who ruleth in the kingdom of men, and givest it to whomsoever thou wilt, Daniel 4:25(KJV) for from thee every man’s judgment proceeds. Proverbs 29:26(KJV)

Hallelujah, the Lord God omnipotent reigns, Revelation 19:6(KJV) and doth all according to the counsel of his own will, to the praise of his own glory. Ephesians 1:11-12(KJV)

Praise God for His Heavenly Splendor and Glory

Adoration 1.9 | KJV

I must give to God the praise of that splendour and glory wherein he is pleased to manifest himself in the upper world.

Thou hast prepared thy throne in the heavens, Psalm 103:19(KJV) and it is a throne of glory, high and lifted up; and before thee the seraphims cover their faces. Isaiah 6:1-2(KJV) And it is in compassion to your people that thou holdest back the face of that throne, and spreadest a cloud upon it. Job 26:9(KJV)

Thou makest thine angels spirits, and thy ministers a flame of fire. Psalm 104:4(KJV) Thousand thousands of them minister unto thee, and ten thousand times ten thousand stand before thee, to do thy pleasure. Revelation 5:11(KJV) They excel in strength and hearken to the voice of thy word. Psalm 103:20-21(KJV) And I am come by faith and hope and holy love into a spiritual communion with that innumerable company of angels and the spirits of just men made perfect, even to the general assembly and church of the first-born, in the heavenly Jerusalem. Hebrews 12:22-23(KJV)

That his truth is invariable, and the treasures of his goodness inexhaustible.

Thou art good, and thy mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 136:1(KJV)

Thy loving-kindness is great toward me, Psalm 117:2(KJV) and thy truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:5(KJV)

Thou hast proclaimed thy name: The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin. Exodus 34:6-7(KJV) And this name of thine is my strong tower. Proverbs 18:10(KJV)

Thou art good and doest good, Psalm 119:68(KJV) good to all; and thy tender mercy is over all thy works. Psalm 145:9(KJV) But truly God is in a special manner good to Israel, even to them that are of a clean heart. Psalm 73:1(KJV)

O that thou wouldest cause thy goodness to pass before me, Exodus 33:19(KJV) that I may taste and see that the Lord is good, Psalm 34:8(KJV) and his loving-kindness may be always before my eyes. Psalm 26:3(KJV)

Lastly, that when I have said all I can of the glorious perfections of the Divine nature, I fall infinitely short of the merit of the subject.

Lo, these are but parts of his ways, and how little a portion is heard of God! But the thunder of his power who can understand? Job 26:14(KJV)

Touching the Almighty, I cannot find him out; he is excellent in power and in judgment, and in plenty of justice; Job 37:23(KJV) he is exalted far above all blessing and praise. Nehemiah 9:5(KJV)

Far be it from God that he should do wickedness, and from the Almighty that he should commit iniquity; for the work of a man shall he render unto him. Job 34:10-11(KJV)

Thy righteousness is as the great mountains, even then when thy judgments are a great deep! Psalm 36:6(KJV) And though clouds and darkness are round about thee, yet judgment and justice are the habitation of thy throne. Psalm 97:2(KJV)

Acknowledge God’s Incontestable Sovereignty and Irresistible Power

Adoration 1.6 | KJV

That his sovereignty is incontestable, and he is the owner and absolute Lord of all.

The heavens, even the heavens are thine, Psalm 115:16(KJV) and all the hosts of them. The earth is thine, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Psalm 24:1(KJV) In thy hand are the deep places of the earth, and the strength of the hills are thine also: The sea is thine, for thou madest it, and thy hands formed the dry land. Psalm 95:4-5(KJV) All the beasts of the forest are thine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. Psalm 50:10(KJV) Thou art therefore a great God, and a great King above all gods. Psalm 95:3(KJV)

Thy dominion is an everlasting dominion, and thy kingdom is from generation to generation: Thou dost according to thy will in the armies of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth, and none can stay thy hand, or say unto thee, What doest thou? Daniel 4:34-35(KJV) or Why doest thou so?

That his power is irresistible, and the operations of it cannot be controlled.

I know, O God, that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. Job 42:2(KJV) Power belongs to thee; Psalm 62:11(KJV) and with thee nothing is impossible. Luke 1:37(KJV)

Recognize God’s Perfect Knowledge and Unsearchable Wisdom

Adoration 1.5 | KJV

That he hath a perfect knowledge of all persons and things, and sees them all, even that which is most secret, at one clear, certain, and unerring view.

All things are naked and open before the eyes of him with whom I have to do, even the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12-13(KJV)

Thine eyes are in every place beholding the evil and the good: Proverbs 15:3(KJV) They run to and fro through the earth, that thou mayest shew thyself strong on the behalf of those whose hearts are upright with thee. 2 Chronicles 16:9(KJV)

Thou searchest the heart and triest the reins, that thou mayest give to every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. Jeremiah 17:10(KJV)

O God, thou hast searched me and known me, thou knowest my down-sitting and my up-rising, and understandest my thoughts afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways: There is not a word in my tongue, but lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Psalm 139:1-4(KJV) Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Psalm 139:6(KJV)

Darkness and light are both alike to thee. Psalm 139:12(KJV)

That his wisdom is unsearchable, and the counsels and designs of it cannot be fathomed.

Thine understanding, O Lord, is infinite, for thou tellest the number of the stars and callest them all by their names. Psalm 147:4-5(KJV)

Thou art wonderful in counsel and excellent in working; Isaiah 28:29(KJV) wise in heart and mighty in strength. Job 9:4(KJV)

O Lord, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom thou made them all; Psalm 104:24(KJV) all according to the counsel of thine own will. Ephesians 1:11(KJV)

O the depth of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and his ways past finding out! Romans 11:33 (KJV)

Acknowledge God’s Eternality and Omnipresence

Adoration 1.4 | KJV

Particularly in my adorations I must acknowledge:

That he is an eternal God, immutable, without beginning of days or end of life or change of time.

Thou art the King eternal, immortal, invisible. 1 Timothy 1:17(KJV)

Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, my Holy One? Habakkuk 1:12(KJV) The everlasting God, even the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, who faintest not, neither art weary; there is no searching out of thine understanding. Isaiah 40:28(KJV)

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting thou art God; Psalm 90:2(KJV) the same yesterday, today, and for ever. Hebrews 13:8(KJV)

Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of thy hands: they shall perish, but thou shalt endure; yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment, as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed; but thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. Psalm 102:25-27(KJV)

Thou art God and changest not; therefore is it that I am not consumed. Malachi 3:6(KJV)

That he is present in all places, and there is no place in which he is not included or out of which he is excluded.

Thou art a God at hand and not a God afar off; none can hide himself in secret places that thou canst not see him, for thou fillest heaven and earth. Jeremiah 23:23-24(KJV)

Thou art not far from every one of us. Acts 17:27(KJV)

I cannot go any whither from thy presence or fly from thy Spirit: If I ascend into heaven, thou art there; if I make my bed in hell, in the depths of the earth, behold thou art there; if I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me, Psalm 139:7-10(KJV) for I cannot outrun thee.

Reverently Adore God, Part 2

Adoration 1.3 | KJV

I must acknowledge his Being to be unquestionable and past dispute.

The heavens declare thy glory, O God, and the firmament sheweth thy handy-work, Psalm 19:1(KJV) and by the things that are made is clearly seen and understood thine eternal power and Godhead. Romans 1:19-20(KJV) So that they are fools without excuse who say, There is no God; Psalm 14:1(KJV) for verily there is a reward for the righteous, verily there is a God that judgeth in the earth, Psalm 58:11(KJV) and in heaven too.

I therefore come to thee believing that thou art and that thou art the powerful and bountiful rewarder of them that diligently seek thee. Hebrews 11:6(KJV)

Yet I must understand and own his nature to be incomprehensible.

I cannot by searching find out God, I cannot find out the Almighty unto perfection. Job 11:7(KJV)

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. Psalm 145:3(KJV)

Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? Who can shew forth all his praise? Psalm 106:2(KJV)

And his perfections to be matchless and without compare.

Who is a God like unto thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? Exodus 15:11(KJV)

Who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord? Psalm 89:6(KJV) O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee, or to thy faithfulness round about thee? Psalm 89:8(KJV)

Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord, neither are there any works like unto thy works. Psalm 86:8(KJV) For thou art great and doest wondrous things; thou art God alone. Psalm 86:10(KJV)

There is not any creature that has an arm like God, or can thunder with a voice like him. Job 40:9(KJV)

And that he is infinitely above me and all other beings.

Thou art God and not man; hast not eyes of flesh, nor seest thou as man seeth. Thy days are not as the days of man, nor thy years as man’s days. Job 10:4-5(KJV)

As heaven is high above the earth, so are thy thoughts above my thoughts, and thy ways above my ways. Isaiah 55:9(KJV)

All nations before thee are as a drop of the bucket, or the small dust of the balance; and thou takest up the isles as a very little thing; Isaiah 40:15(KJV) they are as nothing, and are counted to thee as less than nothing and vanity. Isaiah 40:17(KJV)

Reverently Adore God, Part 1

Adoration 1.2 | KJV

I must reverently adore God, as a Being transcendently bright and blessed, self-existent and self-sufficient, an infinite and eternal Spirit that has all perfections in himself, and give him the glory of his titles and attributes.

O Lord my God, thou art very great, thou art clothed with honour and majesty, thou coverest thyself with light as with a garment; Psalm 104:1-2(KJV) and yet as to me makest darkness thy pavilion, Psalm 18:11(KJV) for I cannot order my speech by reason of darkness. Job 37:19(KJV)

This is the message which I have heard of thee, and I set to my seal that it is true: That God is light, and in him is no darkness at all; 1 John 1:5(KJV) and that God is love, and they that dwell in love, dwell in God and God in them. 1 John 4:16(KJV)

Thou art the Father of light, with whom is no variableness or shadow of turning, and from whom proceedeth every good and perfect gift. James 1:17(KJV)

Thou art the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who only hast immortality, dwelling in the light, which no man can approach unto, whom no man hath seen or can see. 1 Timothy 6:15-16(KJV)

Address God with Reverence and Awe

Adoration 1.1 | KJV

Having thus engaged my heart to approach unto God. Jeremiah 30:21(KJV)

I must solemnly address myself to that infinitely great and glorious Being with whom I have to do, as one that is possessed with a full belief of his presence and a holy awe and reverence of his Majesty, which may be done in such expressions as these:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come! Revelation 4:8(KJV)

O thou whose name alone is JEHOVAH, and who art the Most High over all the earth. Psalm 83:18(KJV)

O God, thou art my God, early will I seek thee; Psalm 63:1(KJV) my God, and I will praise thee; my father’s God, and I will exalt thee. Exodus 15:2(KJV)

O thou who art the true God, the living God, the one only living and true God, 1 Thessalonians 1:9(KJV) and the everlasting King! Jeremiah 10:10(KJV) With thy redeemed people I confess your great name: “The Lord our God, who is one Lord.” Deuteronomy 6:4(KJV)

And may I thus distinguish myself from the worshippers of false gods.

The idols of the heathens are silver and gold, they are vanity and a lie, the work of men’s hands; Psalm 115:4(KJV) they that make them are like unto them, and so is every one that trusteth in them. Psalm 115:8(KJV) But the Portion of Jacob is not like unto them, for he is the former of all things, and Israel is the rod of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name, Jeremiah 10:16(KJV) God over all, blessed for evermore. Romans 9:5(KJV)

Their rock is not my Rock, even the enemies themselves being judges; Deuteronomy 32:31(KJV) for he is the Rock of ages, the Lord Jehovah, with whom is everlasting strength, Isaiah 26:4(KJV) whose name shall endure for ever and his memorial unto all generations, Psalm 135:13(KJV) when the gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, shall perish from off the earth and from under these heavens. Jeremiah 10:11(KJV)
