Pray for Grace to Assist you that you may be Cheerful in your Duty

Petition 3.31 | KJV

That I may be pleasant and cheerful in my duty.

Lord, enable me to rejoice evermore, 1 Thessalonians 5:16(KJV) to rejoice in the Lord always, because he hath again said unto me, Rejoice; Philippians 4:4(KJV) that I may go on my way rejoicing, may eat my bread with joy, and drink my wine with a merry heart, as I shall have reason to do if God now accepteth my works. Ecclesiastes 9:7(KJV)

Give me grace to serve thee, the Lord my God, with joyfulness and gladness of heart in the abundance of all things; Deuteronomy 28:47(KJV) and to sing in the ways of the Lord, because great is the glory of my God. Psalm 138:5(KJV)

Let me have that cheerfulness of heart which doeth good like a medicine, Proverbs 17:22(KJV) and deliver me from that heaviness which maketh the heart stoop, Proverbs 12:25(KJV) and that sorrow of the world which worketh death. 2 Corinthians 7:10(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Assist you that you may be Courageous in your Duty

Petition 3.30 | KJV

That I may be resolute and courageous in my duty, as one that knows that though I may be a loser for Christ, I shall not be a loser by him in the end.

Lord, teach me to endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, 2 Timothy 2:3(KJV) that I may not fear the reproach of men or their revilings, Isaiah 51:7(KJV) nor be ashamed of Christ or of his words, Mark 8:38(KJV) knowing whom I have believed, even one who is able to keep what I have committed to him against that day. 2 Timothy 1:12(KJV)

Though bonds and afflictions should abide me, Lord, grant that none of these things may move me, and that I may not count life itself dear to me, so I may finish my course with joy. Acts 20:23-24(KJV)

Enable me in all things to approve myself to God; 2 Corinthians 6:4(KJV) and then to pass by honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report, clad with the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 2 Corinthians 6:7-8(KJV) as one that accounts it a very small thing to be judged of man’s judgment, for he that judgeth me is the Lord. 1 Corinthians 4:3-4(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Assist you that you may be Diligent in your Duty

Petition 3.29 | KJV

That I may be active and diligent in my duty.

Lord, quicken me to work the works of him that sent me, while it is day, because the night comes, wherein no man can work; John 9:4(KJV) and what good my hands find to do, to do it with all my might, because there is no work or knowledge in the grave whither I am going. Ecclesiastes 9:10(KJV)

Lord, grant that I may never be slothful in any good business, but fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; Romans 12:11(KJV) steadfast and unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as I know that my labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58(KJV)

Lord, make me zealously affected in every good work; Galatians 4:18(KJV) and what I do, enable me to do it heartily, as unto the Lord and not unto men. Colossians 3:23(KJV)

Lord, enable me to do the work of every day in its day, according as the duty of the day requires, Ezra 3:4(KJV) redeeming the time, because the days are evil; Ephesians 5:16(KJV) that when my Lord comes, he may find me so doing. Luke 12:43(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Assist you that you may be Honest in your Duty

Petition 3.28 | KJV

That I may be honest and sincere in my duty.

Let my wisdom be not that from beneath, which is earthly, sensual, devilish; James 3:15(KJV) but wisdom from above, which is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. James 3:17(KJV)

O that I may always have my conversation in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God. 2 Corinthians 1:12(KJV)

Lord, uphold me in my integrity, and set me before thy face for ever; Psalm 41:12(KJV) and let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait on thee. Psalm 25:21(KJV)

Let my heart be found in thy statutes, that I be not ashamed; Psalm 119:80(KJV) and let my eye be single, that my whole body may be full of light. Matthew 6:22(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Direct, Quicken, Strengthen, and Assist you that you may Walk Wisely

Petition 3.27 | KJV

I must pray for grace to direct and quicken me to, and to strengthen and assist me in, my duty, in the whole course of my conversation.

Let the grace of God, which hath appeared to me and to all men, bringing salvation, effectually teach me to deny all ungodliness and worldly, fleshly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world, looking for the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and my Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave himself for his people, that he might redeem them from all iniquity and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Titus 2:11-14(KJV)

That I may be prudent and discreet in my duty.

Thou hast said, If any man lacks wisdom, he must ask it of God, who gives to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. James 1:5(KJV) Lord, I want wisdom; make me wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove, Matthew 10:16(KJV) that wisdom may make my face to shine, Ecclesiastes 8:1(KJV) and may be better to me than weapons of war. Ecclesiastes 9:18(KJV)

Enable me to walk in wisdom towards them that are without, redeeming the time. Colossians 4:5(KJV)

Give me to order all my affairs with discretion and to behave myself wisely, in a perfect way, with a perfect heart. Psalm 101:2(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Govern your Tongue

Petition 3.26 | KJV

I must pray for grace to enable me both to govern my tongue well and to use it well.

Lord, enable me to take heed to my ways, that I offend not with my tongue, and to keep my mouth as it were with a bridle, Psalm 39:1(KJV) that it may not be hasty to utter any thing. Ecclesiastes 5:2(KJV)

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, keep the door of my lips, Psalm 141:3(KJV) that I may not offend in word. James 3:2(KJV)

Let my speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, Colossians 4:6(KJV) and enable me always, out of the good treasure of my heart, to bring forth good things. Matthew 12:35(KJV) Let my mouth speak wisdom, and my tongue talk judgment; Psalm 37:30(KJV) and let not thy words depart out of my mouth, or any of your people’s mouth, nor out of the mouth of our seed, or our seed’s seed, from henceforth and for ever. Isaiah 59:21(KJV)

Enable me always to open my mouth with wisdom, and let the law of kindness be in my tongue. Proverbs 31:26(KJV) Give me to know what is acceptable, Proverbs 10:32(KJV) that my tongue may be as choice silver, and my lips may feed many. Proverbs 10:20-21(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Preserve you from Sin

Petition 3.25 | KJV

I must pray for grace to preserve me from sin and all appearances of it and approaches towards it.

Now I pray to God that I may do no evil, 2 Corinthians 13:7(KJV) but may be blameless and harmless, as a child of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation. Philippians 2:15(KJV)

Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way. Psalm 119:37(KJV) Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me thy law graciously. Psalm 119:29(KJV)

Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with them that work iniquity; and let me not eat of their dainties. Psalm 141:4(KJV)

O cleanse me from my secret faults; keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins: Let not them have dominion over me, but let me be upright and innocent from the great transgressions; Psalm 19:12-13(KJV) and grant that hereby I may prove myself upright before thee, by keeping myself from my own iniquity. Psalm 18:23(KJV)

Let thy word be hid in my heart, that I may not sin against thee; Psalm 119:11(KJV) and thy grace be at all times sufficient for me, 2 Corinthians 12:9(KJV) ready to me, and mighty in me; and never give me up to my own heart’s lust, to walk in my own counsel. Jeremiah 7:24(KJV)

Enable me to walk circumspectly, not as a fool but as wise, Ephesians 5:15(KJV) so circumspectly, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion to blaspheme that worthy name by which I am called; James 2:7(KJV) and with well-doing may I put to silence the ignorance of foolish men, 1 Peter 2:15(KJV) and may I adorn the doctrine of God my Saviour in all things. Titus 2:10(KJV)

Pray for the Grace of Hope

Petition 3.24 | KJV

I must pray for the grace of hope; a hope in God and Christ, and a hope of eternal life.

Let patience work experience in me, and experience, hope, such a hope as maketh not ashamed. Romans 5:4-5(KJV) Through patience and comfort of the Scriptures, let me have hope, Romans 15:4(KJV) and be saved by hope. Romans 8:24(KJV)

Let the God of Jacob be my help, and my hope always be in the Lord my God. Psalm 146:5(KJV)

Let me be begotten again to a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1 Peter 1:3(KJV) and let that hope be to me as an anchor of the soul, sure and steadfast, entering into that within the veil, whither the Forerunner is for me entered. Hebrews 6:19-20(KJV)

Let me have Christ in me the hope of glory, Colossians 1:27(KJV) and never be moved away from that hope of the gospel; Colossians 1:23(KJV) but enable me to give diligence unto the full assurance of hope unto the end. Hebrews 6:11(KJV)

Pray for the Graces of Contentment and Patience

Petition 3.23 | KJV

I must pray for the graces of contentment and patience, and a holy indifferency to all the things of sense and time.

Lord, teach me whatsoever state I am in therewith to be content; let me know how to be abased and how to abound; every where and in all things, let me be instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. Philippians 4:11-12(KJV) And let godliness with contentment be great gain to me, 1 Timothy 6:6(KJV) and a little with the fear of the Lord and quietness, be better than a great treasure and trouble therewith. Proverbs 15:16(KJV)

Lord, grant that my conversation may be without covetousness, and I may always be content with such things as I have, Hebrews 13:5(KJV) still saying, The will of the Lord be done. Acts 21:14(KJV)

Enable me in my patience to possess my own soul; Luke 21:19(KJV) and let patience always have its perfect work, that I may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:4(KJV)

Lord, give me grace to weep as though I wept not, and to rejoice as though I rejoiced not, and to possess as though I possessed not, and to use the world as not abusing it, because the time is short, and the fashion of this world passeth away. 1 Corinthians 7:29-31(KJV)

Pray for the Grace of Self-Denial and Humility

Petition 3.22 | KJV

I must pray for the grace of self-denial.

Lord, give me grace to deny myself, to take up my cross daily, and to follow Christ, Matthew 16:24(KJV) to keep under the body and bring it into subjection. 1 Corinthians 9:27(KJV)

Lord, keep me from being a lover of my own self, 2 Timothy 3:2(KJV) from being wise in my own conceit and leaning to my own understanding. Proverbs 3:5(KJV)

Lord, give me to seek not my own only, but my brother’s welfare. 1 Corinthians 10:24(KJV)

And grant that I may not live to myself or die to myself, but whether I live or die, I may be the Lord’s, and may live and die to him. Romans 14:7-8(KJV)

I must pray for humility and meekness.

Lord, give me to learn of Christ to be meek and lowly in heart, that I may find rest to my soul; Matthew 11:29(KJV) and that herein the same mind may be in me that was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5(KJV)

Lord, hide pride from me, Job 33:17(KJV) and clothe me with humility; 1 Peter 5:5(KJV) and put upon me the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which in thy sight is of great price. 1 Peter 3:4-5(KJV)

Lord, give me grace to walk worthy of the vocation wherewith I am called, with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing others in love. Ephesians 4:1-2(KJV)

Let anger never rest in my bosom, Ecclesiastes 7:9(KJV) nor the sun ever go down upon my wrath; Ephesians 4:26(KJV) but enable me to show all meekness towards all men, because I myself also was sometimes foolish and disobedient. Titus 3:2-3(KJV)

Let me be clothed as becomes an elect child of God, holy and beloved, with bowels of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, and long-suffering, Colossians 3:12(KJV) that being merciful, as my Father which is in heaven is merciful, Luke 6:36(KJV) I may be perfect as he is perfect. Matthew 5:48(KJV)
