Pray for God’s Grace to Fortify you Against Satan’s Temptations

Petition 3.12 | NIV

And that the temptations of Satan may not overcome me.

I pray that I may not fall into temptation; Matthew 26:41(NIV) or, however, that no temptation may seize me except what is common to man. And let the faithful God never let me be tempted beyond what I can bear, but when I am tempted, may he also provide a way out so that I can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:13(NIV)

Put on me the full armor of God so that I can take my stand against the devil’s schemes; Ephesians 6:11(NIV) to stand my ground when the day of evil comes, and after I have done everything, to stand. May the belt of truth be buckled around my waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with my feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Give me the shield of faith, with which I can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one, and the helmet of salvation; and let the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, be always ready for me. Ephesians 6:13-17(NIV)

Enable me to resist the devil, so that he may flee from me; James 4:7(NIV) to resist him, standing firm in the faith. 1 Peter 5:9(NIV) And may you, the God of peace, tread Satan under your people’s feet, and may you do it soon. Romans 16:20(NIV)

Pray for God’s Grace to Fortify you Against Everything Evil

Petition 3.11 | NIV

I must pray for the grace of God, and all the kind and powerful influences and operations of that grace.

I approach the throne of grace, so that I may receive not only mercy to pardon, but grace to help in every time of need: Hebrews 4:16(NIV) grace for seasonable help.

From the fullness that is in Jesus Christ (in whom it pleased the Father that all his fullness should dwell), Colossians 1:19(NIV) let me receive one blessing after another. John 1:16(NIV)

I must pray for grace to fortify myself against every evil thought, word, and work. Having been earnest for the removing of the guilt of sin, that I may not die for it as a crime, I must be no less earnest for the breaking of the power of sin, that I may not die by it as a disease, but that it may be mortified in me.

O let no sin be my master, because I am not under law but under grace. Romans 6:14(NIV)

Let the sinful nature be crucified in me, with its passions and desires; Galatians 5:24(NIV) that living by the Spirit, I may not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Galatians 5:16(NIV)

Let my old self be crucified with Christ so that the body of sin may be done away with, that henceforth I may not serve sin. Romans 6:6(NIV) And do not let sin reign in my mortal body (in my immortal soul) so that I should obey its evil desires, Romans 6:12(NIV) but being set free from sin, let me become a slave to righteousness. Romans 6:18(NIV)

Through Christ Jesus, let the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2(NIV)

Give me grace to put off the old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires, Ephesians 4:22(NIV) that I may put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:24(NIV)

Let the world be crucified to me, and I to the world, through the cross of Christ. Galatians 6:14(NIV)

Pray for a Well-Grounded Peace of Conscience

Petition 3.10 | NIV

That I may have a well-grounded peace of conscience, a holy security and serenity of mind arising from a sense of my justification before God and a good work wrought in me.

The Lord of peace himself give me peace, all peace, at all times and in every way: 2 Thessalonians 3:16(NIV) That peace which Jesus Christ has left with his people, which he gives me; such a peace as the world can neither give nor take away; such a peace as that my heart may not be troubled or afraid. John 14:27(NIV)

Let the fruit of righteousness in my soul be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever. Isaiah 32:17(NIV)

Promise peace to your people, your saints, and let them not return to folly. Psalm 85:8(NIV)

O create praise on the lips, Peace, peace to those far and near; and restore comfort to your mourners. Isaiah 57:18-19(NIV)

Where the men of peace are, let your peace find them out and rest on them. Luke 10:6(NIV)

Bring me word of your unfailing love, and let me taste that you are good, 1 Peter 2:3(NIV) for I have put my trust in you. Psalm 143:8(NIV)

Let the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, guard my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus; Philippians 4:7(NIV) and let that peace rule in my heart, since to this I have been called. Colossians 3:15(NIV)

May the God of hope fill me with all joy and peace as I trust in him, so that I may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13(NIV)

Pray for a Sense of Assurance

Petition 3.9 | NIV

I must pray for the comfortable sense of my reconciliation to God and my acceptance with him.

That I may have some evidence of the pardon of my sins and of my adoption.

O let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones which sin has crushed rejoice. Psalm 51:8(NIV)

Say to each of your children, “Take heart, Son, Daughter; your sins are forgiven.” Matthew 9:2(NIV)

Let the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse my conscience from acts that lead to death, so that I may serve you, the living God! Hebrews 9:14(NIV)

Let your Spirit testify with my spirit that I am God’s child, and if I am a child, then I am an heir – an heir of God and a co-heir with Christ. Romans 8:16-17(NIV)

Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.” Psalm 35:3(NIV)

Pray for Reconciliation with God that you may Have His Blessing and Abiding Presence

Petition 3.8 | NIV

That I may have the blessing of God.

O God, be gracious to me and bless me and make your face to shine upon me; Psalm 67:1(NIV) yes, let God, my God, give me his blessing. Psalm 67:6(NIV)

May the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth, bless me from Zion; Psalm 134:3(NIV) bless me in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 1:3(NIV)

Oh, that you would bless me! 1 Chronicles 4:10(NIV) Bestow your blessing upon me, even life forevermore; Psalm 133:3(NIV) for you, O LORD, bless, and it shall be blessed. 1 Chronicles 17:27(NIV)

Let me receive blessing from the LORD, even vindication from God my Savior. Psalm 24:5(NIV)

Do you have only one blessing? Indeed, you have many blessings! Bless me too, my Father! Genesis 27:38(NIV) Yes, let the blessing given to Abraham come to me, which comes to the Gentiles by faith; Galatians 3:14(NIV) and the blessing of Jacob, for I would not let you go unless you bless me. Genesis 32:26(NIV)

That I may have the presence of God with me.

If your Presence does not go with me, do not send me up from here; Exodus 33:15(NIV) never leave me, never forsake me. Hebrews 13:5(NIV)

O do not cast me from your presence or ever take your Holy Spirit from me; Psalm 51:11(NIV) but let me always live with the upright before you. Psalm 140:13(NIV)

Pray for Reconciliation with God that you may be in Covenant with Him and Know His Favor

Petition 3.7 | NIV

That I may be taken into covenant with God and admitted into a relationship with him.

Be my God, and take me to be of your people; Hebrews 8:10(NIV) and make me a willing troop on your day of battle, Psalm 110:3(NIV) though I am no longer worthy to be called your child. Luke 15:19(NIV) For how should you put me, who has been rebellious, among the children, and give me the pleasant land? But you have said that I shall call you my Father and not turn away from following you. Jeremiah 3:19(NIV) Shall I not therefore call to you, “My Father, my friend from my youth”? Jeremiah 3:4(NIV)

Lord, I hold fast to your covenant; Isaiah 56:4(NIV) to you I bind myself in an everlasting covenant; Jeremiah 50:5(NIV) O that you would cause me to pass under your rod and bring me into the bond of the covenant, Ezekiel 20:37(NIV) that I may become yours. Ezekiel 16:8(NIV)

Make with me an everlasting covenant, your faithful love promised to David. Isaiah 55:3(NIV)

That I may have the favor of God and an interest in his special love.

I have sought your face with all my heart, O God; be gracious to me according to your promise, Psalm 119:58(NIV) for your favor lasts a lifetime; Psalm 30:5(NIV) yes, your love is better than life itself. Psalm 63:3(NIV)

LORD, make your face shine upon me and be gracious to me; LORD, turn your face towards me and give me peace. Numbers 6:25-26(NIV)

Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people; come to my aid when you save them, that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones; that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise. Psalm 106:4-5(NIV)

Pray for Reconciliation with God that you may Know His Peace

Petition 3.6 | NIV

I must likewise pray that God will be reconciled to me, that I may obtain his favor and blessing and gracious acceptance.

That I may be at peace with God and his anger may be turned away from me.

Being justified through faith, let me have peace with God through my Lord Jesus Christ, and through him let me gain access into that grace in which believers now stand, and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2(NIV)

Do not be a terror to me, for you are my refuge in the day of disaster. Jeremiah 17:17(NIV)

In Christ Jesus let me, who was once far away, be brought near by the blood of Christ; for he himself is his people’s peace, who has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, and, that he might reconcile his people to God through his cross, has put to death their hostility, thus making peace. Through him, therefore, let me, who have made myself a foreigner and an alien, become a fellow citizen with God’s people and a member of God’s household. Ephesians 2:13-19(NIV)

You are not angry: If only there were briers and thorns confronting you! You would march against them in battle; you would set them all on fire. But you have encouraged me to come to you for refuge and make peace with you; yes, to make peace with you. Isaiah 27:4-5(NIV) O let me therefore submit to you and be at peace, for in this way prosperity may come to me. Job 22:21(NIV)

Heal me and I shall be healed; save me and I shall be saved, for you are the one I praise. Jeremiah 17:14(NIV) Do not be angry with me forever but revive me again, that I may rejoice in you. Show me your unfailing love, O LORD, and grant me your salvation. Psalm 85:5-7(NIV)

Plead with God your Misery Because of Sin, Along with the Blessed Condition of Pardoned Sinners

Petition 3.5 | NIV

My own misery and danger because of sin.

For the sake of your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. Psalm 25:11(NIV) For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. Be pleased, O LORD, to save me; O LORD, come quickly to help me. Psalm 40:12-13(NIV)

O do not hold against me the sins of the fathers; may your mercy come quickly to meet me, for I am in desperate need. Help me, O God my Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver me and forgive my sins for your name’s sake. Psalm 79:8-9(NIV)

Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD. Psalm 25:7(NIV)

The blessed condition which they are in whose sins are pardoned.

O let me have the blessedness of those whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; of that man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit. Psalm 32:1-2(NIV)

O let me have redemption through Christ’s blood, even the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of your grace that you have lavished on me with all wisdom and understanding. Ephesians 1:7-8(NIV) That being in Christ Jesus, there may be no condemnation for me. Romans 8:1(NIV)

That my sins, which are many, being forgiven me, Luke 7:47(NIV) I may go in peace: Luke 7:50(NIV) And no one living in Zion will say, “I am ill,” if the sins of those who dwell there are forgiven. Isaiah 33:24(NIV)

Plead with God His Promises of Pardon

Petition 3.4 | NIV

The promises God has made in his word to pardon and absolve all those who truly repent and unfeignedly believe his holy gospel.

Lord, is not this the word which you have spoken: that if the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts, and turn to the LORD, you will have mercy on him, and to my God, for you will freely pardon, Isaiah 55:7(NIV) will pardon abundantly?

The Lord my God is merciful and forgiving, even though I have rebelled against him. Daniel 9:9(NIV)

Is not this the covenant which you have made with the house of Israel: that you will take away their sins; Romans 11:27(NIV) that you will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more; Jeremiah 31:34(NIV) that search will be made for Israel’s guilt, but there will be none, and for the sins of Judah, but none will be found? Jeremiah 50:20(NIV)

Have you not said that if the wicked man turns from all of the sins he has committed and follows your decrees, he will live; he will not die; none of his sins will be remembered against him? Ezekiel 33:15-16(NIV)

Have you not appointed that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in Christ’s name to all nations? Luke 24:47(NIV)

Did you not promise that when the sins of Israel were put upon the head of the scapegoat, they should be sent away into the desert to a solitary place? Leviticus 16:22(NIV) And as far as the east is from the west, so far have you removed my transgressions from me. Psalm 103:12(NIV)

O remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. Psalm 119:49(NIV)

Plead with God the Merit and Righteousness of Jesus Christ

Petition 3.3 | NIV

The merit and righteousness of my Lord Jesus Christ, which I rely upon as my main plea in my petition for the pardon of sin.

I know that as you are gracious and merciful, so you are the righteous God who loves justice, Psalm 11:7(NIV) and does not leave the guilty unpunished. Exodus 34:7(NIV) I cannot say, “Be patient with me, and I will pay back everything,” Matthew 18:26(NIV) for I have become like one who is unclean, and all my righteous acts are like filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6(NIV) But Jesus Christ has become for me righteousness from God: 1 Corinthians 1:30(NIV) God made him who had no sin to be sin for me, so that in him I might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21(NIV)

I have sinned, but I have one who speaks to the Father in my defense – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One, who is the atoning sacrifice for my sins, and not only for mine but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2(NIV)

It is God who justifies, who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for me; Romans 8:33-34(NIV) and his blood speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. Hebrews 12:24(NIV)

I desire to consider everything loss for the sake of Christ, and rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, but that which is through faith in Christ. Philippians 3:7-9(NIV)

This is the name by which I, with your people, will call him: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jeremiah 23:6(NIV) In him, Lord, I believe; help me overcome my unbelief! Mark 9:24(NIV)

Lord, remember David and all the hardships he endured; Psalm 132:1(NIV) the Son of David, remember all his sacrifices and accept his burnt offerings; Psalm 20:3(NIV) and do not reject your Anointed One, 2 Chronicles 6:42(NIV) who by his own blood has entered heaven itself, now to appear for me in God’s presence. Hebrews 9:24(NIV)

Have you not yourself presented your Son, Christ Jesus, as a sacrifice of atonement for sin, through faith in his blood, to demonstrate your justice for the remission of sins, to demonstrate your justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus? Romans 3:25-26(NIV) And I now receive reconciliation. Romans 5:11(NIV)
