Matthew Henry’s “Method For Prayer”

Give Glory to God for His Patience and Willingness to be Reconciled

Confession 2.19 | KJV

I must give to God the glory of his patience and long-suffering towards me and his willingness to be reconciled.

O the riches of the patience and forbearance of God! Romans 2:4(KJV) How long-suffering is he towards me, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9(KJV)

Thou hast not dealt with me according to my sin, nor rewarded me after my iniquities, Psalm 103:10(KJV) but thou waitest to be gracious to me. Isaiah 30:18(KJV)

Sentence against my evil works has not been executed speedily, Ecclesiastes 8:11(KJV) but thou hast given me space to repent and make my peace with thee, Revelation 2:21(KJV) and callest even backsliding children, such as myself, to return to thee and hast promised to heal my backslidings; and therefore, behold I come unto thee, for thou art the Lord my God. Jeremiah 3:22(KJV)

Surely the long-suffering of my Lord is salvation; 2 Peter 3:15(KJV) and if the Lord had been pleased to kill me, he would not as at this time have showed me such things as these. Judges 13:23(KJV)

And O that this goodness of God might lead me to repentance! Romans 2:4(KJV) For though I have trespassed against my God, yet now there is hope for me in Israel concerning this thing. Ezra 10:2(KJV)

Thou hast said it and hast confirmed it with an oath, that thou hast no pleasure in the death of sinners like me, but rather desire that I should turn and live. Ezekiel 33:11(KJV) Therefore will I rend my heart, and not my garment, and turn to the Lord my God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness. Who knows if he will return and repent and leave a blessing behind him? Joel 2:13-14(KJV)
