Matthew Henry’s “Method For Prayer”

Reverently Adore God, Part 1

Adoration 1.2 | KJV

I must reverently adore God, as a Being transcendently bright and blessed, self-existent and self-sufficient, an infinite and eternal Spirit that has all perfections in himself, and give him the glory of his titles and attributes.

O Lord my God, thou art very great, thou art clothed with honour and majesty, thou coverest thyself with light as with a garment; Psalm 104:1-2(KJV) and yet as to me makest darkness thy pavilion, Psalm 18:11(KJV) for I cannot order my speech by reason of darkness. Job 37:19(KJV)

This is the message which I have heard of thee, and I set to my seal that it is true: That God is light, and in him is no darkness at all; 1 John 1:5(KJV) and that God is love, and they that dwell in love, dwell in God and God in them. 1 John 4:16(KJV)

Thou art the Father of light, with whom is no variableness or shadow of turning, and from whom proceedeth every good and perfect gift. James 1:17(KJV)

Thou art the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who only hast immortality, dwelling in the light, which no man can approach unto, whom no man hath seen or can see. 1 Timothy 6:15-16(KJV)
